OLD TOWN, Fla. (WCJB)-- The Dixie County Sheriff's Office got a call from the clerk at the Old Town Texaco reporting a robbery Sunday night. He told deputies that the robber came into the store while he was doing the nightly inventory. When the robber entered, he was wearing a mask and brandishing a handgun.
According to deputies, the robber hit the clerk on the head with the handgun and ordered him to give him the cash from the register. After getting the cash from the clerk, the robber fired one shot inside the store hitting a shelf.
The robber then left the store in a car that he had parked out in front of the store. A description of the car was provided to other deputies and a vehicle matching this description was seen on County Road 55A where it turned toward U.S. 19 just south of Eugene.
A deputy on U.S. 19 spotted the car heading towards Cross City. The deputy then began following the vehicle and once a second deputy had arrived, the two attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The car fled from the two deputies at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour. A Cross City Police officer had positioned himself just south of Cross City to deploy stop sticks to end the pursuit.
The suspect failed to stop for the deputies and the CCPD officer deployed the stop sticks near the intersection of NE 132 Avenue and US 19 causing the suspect’s vehicle tire(s) to begin to deflate.
When the car came to a stop on US 19, the suspect ran on foot with the two deputies following him. The suspect was overtaken and with the use of a taser the suspect was able to be taken to the ground and restrained and taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Ralph S. Dixon, 27 years of age from Cross City.
Deputies recovered a mask, gloves, cash and a firearm all of which are believed to be part of the robbery. Dixon was evaluated and cleared on the scene by Dixie County EMS and after being cleared by EMS, he was taken to the Dixie County Jail.
Dixon is charged with Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Grand Theft and Shooting within an Occupied Structure. He is currently being held in the Dixie County Jail and is awaiting his first appearance.
