OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - If you’re looking for a place that has fun for the entire family, look no further than Petting Zoo Ocala.
It opened in 2013 and features over 100 animals. The founders used to work for the circus and have over 40 years of experience caring for exotic animals.
Marcia Palacio, co-owner/founder, says "we acquired this farm, and we bought a couple of goats, and from there suddenly we had a donkey and then we had another camel and it just progressed from there and suddenly we had more animals than we could afford.”
What is great about petting zoo Ocala, is that most of the animals most likely would not be living if it weren't for the zoo.
While you are allowed to pet just about every one of the animals, they also let you ride some of them. They offer camel and pony rides to children every weekend.
Petting Zoo Ocala just held its annual fundraiser last weekend which featured an elephant and throughout December, they are helping local churches celebrate Christmas. They take their camels and sheep to local Churches to recreate nativity scenes.
The petting zoo is open from 10-4 during the week and from 10-5 on the weekends and you can find it just off Highway 40 west of Ocala.
