Palatka man injured after plane lands in St. Johns River
A man was hurt in a plane crash in Putnam County Tuesday afternoon.
Allen Sasser, 65, of Palatka, was flying an amphibious biplane when he tried to land in the St. Johns River, according to a Florida Highway Patrol trooper report.
Sasser did not realize the wheels were still down as he tried to land, and the plane broke apart, sinking as it hit the water.
A neighbor saw Sasser crash and paddled out to retrieve him, the FHP report said. Sasser only suffered minor injuries.
The FAA and the Coast Guard have been alerted about the incident.
