MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) -- A pedestrian was killed while walking his bike south on 441 in Marion County on Saturday night.
The incident happened around 10:50 p.m. when the 59-year-old pedestrian, who remains unidentified pending notification of family, was walking his bike along the inside lane of the highway.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, named as Angel Rivas, 28, did not notice the pedestrian walking on the roadway. The front left of the vehicle struck the man, who was then thrown southeast into the grass median.
The vehicle veered into the median after the collision. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene.
At this time, it is unclear whether charges will be pressed against Rivas; it is also unclear whether the pedestrian was in a bike lane or vehicle lane. According to FHP's press release, alcohol was not involved.
