ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) – It seems the long-awaited Newberry to High Springs pedestrian trail will not happen.
In a letter to Alachua County commissioners, deputy county manager James Harriott said CSX Corporation is no longer willing to sell its rail corridor between the two cities.
In January, county commissioners voted to offer the railroad corporation more than $3 million for the old rail line, but environmental questions delayed the agreement.
When the county attempted to restart negotiations in July, CSX said, "No."
The county no longer has plans to buy the corridor, Harriott said.
