OCALA, Fla. (WFTV) – UPDATE 6:30 - An Ocala home has turned into a crime scene after one man killed another while in the house.
It was an emotional day for the neighbors living on Southwest Fort King Street.
Overnight police responded to a home in the neighborhood for a report of a shooting.
When they arrived they found 24-year-old Tyler Richardson laying on the living room floor with multiple gunshot wounds.
"He was rushed to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he, later on just before midnight succumbed to his injuries,” said Public Information Officer for the Ocala Police Department, Corie Byrd.
22-year-old Alton Wilkerson was arrested for the murder after he called 911 to confess.
In interviews with police, Wilkerson said he didn't know why he pulled the trigger.
"Witnesses didn't hear any screaming or any fighting and we think this is just kind of something that happened. We don't have the why and we may never know the why,” Byrd added.
Wilkerson also lead police to the gun he used and discarded during and after the incident.
He is being held at the Marion County jail and is facing a charge of 2nd degree murder.
Witnesses told police they heard at least four gunshots Tuesday night before officers said they arrived at a home in Ocala and found a 24-year-old man inside with several gunshot wounds.
Police said around 10 p.m. Tyler Richardson, of Ocala, was transported from the home on Fort King Street to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he died.
While the investigation at the home continued, officers said a man called 911 to admit to the shooting.
Police said when they tracked down suspect Alton Wilkerson he could not give a reason for the shooting, but he did show officers where he left the weapon in a wooded area near the home.
Officer took Wilkerson into custody, and he is facing charges of second-degree murder.
