In a meeting, Alachua County's Senior Transportation Manager presented plans to incoporate a single use pathway on the east side of the highway from Bolans Bluff to the north end of the prairie.
He also presented an option to create two paths on both sides of the prairie.
The rough estimate for this project could cost several million dollars.
County Commissioner, Mike Byerly said he doesn't think the funding for this project should come just from Wild Spaces and Public Places.
"I think we need partners including the City of Gainesville, possibly DOT, possibly other sources, the Old Florida Heritage Highway allows us to apply for grants with some credibility, so if we have some money we may have some other sources available to us for funding," said Byerly.
Commissioners agreed the Department of Transportation would have to estimate costs for both the construction and drainage of the area before they can decide on an outcome.
