GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- While you might need an umbrella, it’s a great reason to head outside this weekend: the reopening of Green Acres Park on Southwest 40th Street.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and picnic are scheduled to take place on Sunday at p.m. at the park located in the Sugarfoot community.
As part of the two-year-long project, crews added a new playground, picnic pavilion, grill, outdoor fitness equipment and benches.
The redesign was the result of a collaboration between the city of Gainesville and the Sugarfoot Community Improvement Association.
“There’s a neighborhood group we’ve been meeting with periodically to help provide input on what improvements they’d like to see at their neighborhood park,” said Betsy White, director for Gainesville’s Wild Spaces and Public Spaces department.
Renovations were funded by the voter-approved Wild Places and Public Spaces half-cent sales tax.
