GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- Incumbent Representative Chuck Clemons (R) beat back a challenge from Jason Haeseler (D) for the Florida State House District 21 seat.
As the results poured in, Haeseler attended a Democratic watch party at Cypress & Grove in Gainesville. Clemons attended a watch party at Copper Monkey in Gainesville.
Clemons declared victory in the race just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. His victory margin was 52% to Haeseler's 48%.
"My plan now is to help instill a new level of civility in government," Clemons said. "To bring people together to solve some of the challenges that we have in education, to solve some of the challenges we have in our environment and our water quality, and to bring more jobs to District 21."
The freshman incumbent thanked his wife and volunteer team during his victory speech.
