MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB)-- Marion County residents gathered together Monday to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and his dream of a better America.
Residents honored the civil rights advocate with music and prayer, carrying on King's dream that all people can live together in harmony.
"This day is not just for black people, not just for white people, but it's for all people,” said Day in the Park event Coordinator, Derek Ponder.
And many are working to continue to make that dream a reality.
"I saw hostility, I saw segregation, I saw exclusiveness instead of inclusiveness and it's important to me today to change these types of mentalities and mindsets,” said Chairmen of Marion County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Commemorative Commission, Ire Bethea.
Working together to honor a dream that one day we will live in harmony.
"That's our dream to see all of our community to be able to celebrate on this day,” Ponder added.
