Local law enforcement would have to honor ICE detainers if new bill is signed

(WCJB)-- Local government entities that don't cooperate with federal immigration authorities would have to comply if the governor signs a bill now on his desk.

The bill passed the house on a 68-45 vote, shortly after clearing the Senate 22-18.

Local officials would have to honor US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers for undocumented immigrants who are arrested or convicted of a crime, exempting crime victims and witnesses.
