GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- Elaborate floats and special moments kicked off the holidays at the Tacachale Center in Gainesville. The head of the center, Michael S. Mayfield says they house over 300 people who are intellectually disabled.

The festive floats during the parade were created by Tacachale staff with help from their maintenance department. The Maintenance department had a rotating Charlie Brown style propellor plane. Other floats were themed after Despicable Me, Dr. Suess, and of course, Santa Claus made several appearances.

Local Schools and law enforcement with Alachua County and the City of Gainesville participated in the line of festive celebration moving down the complex.

The parade kicks off the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Tv20's David Snyder will be there to help with the celebration along with live music.
