SUWANNEE, Fla. (WCJB) -- A lawsuit against the Suwannee County School District and a school teacher contains charges of bullying and intimidation that came to an end with a student committing suicide almost two years ago.
The family of 14-year-old Kaleb Simmons filed the lawsuit against the school board and a Suwannee High School science teacher claiming the teacher constantly bullied and embarrassed Kaleb to tears in front of his classmates.
The teacher even calling Kaleb's mother on a cellphone, making a charge of him cheating while letting the classroom listen in on speakerphone while Kaleb was sitting there.
Several hours later, Kaleb went home and took his own life with a hunting rifle.
The family says the school district knew about the teacher's actions. The parents are asking for burial and funeral expenses as well as compensation for pain and suffering.
The family is also asking for a trial by jury.
