Alachua County, Fla. (WCJB)-- Many Alachua County school nurses are now prepared to treat students in the event of a bleeding emergency.

20 school nurses completed "Stop the Bleed" training, which encourages bystanders to become trained to stop bleeding in an emergency.

They were taught life-saving techniques like improvised tourniquets and triaging. The course was part of a collaborative effort between the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the Gainesville Police Department.
