The driver of a semi-truck was seriously injured Friday evening after multiple vehicles were involved in a wreck in Starke, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said two semi-trucks were heading north on US 301 around 9 p.m. when the driver of one of them veered out of the lane and hit the other truck.

The hit semi-truck was pushed into a concrete barrier and became engulfed in flames. The driver, 52-year-old Thomas Poppe from Jacksonville, was seriously injured. He was taken to UF Health Gainesville for treatment.

A tire also came loose during the wreck and hit a Dodge truck. The driver and passenger of that vehicle were not injured.

The driver of the initial semi-truck, which left its lane, took off from the scene of the crash.

The truck is described as a tractor and trailer with an enclosed box trailer and possibly having damage to its right side. Anyone who has information about the wreck is urged to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
