Shooting investigation leads GPD to stolen gun

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- Gainesville Police was called to the area of 1600 Northeast 8th Avenue after reports of a shooting on Tuesday morning.

The victims told officers that a black man was standing in the street and one of the victims honked at him to move. The two started to get into an argument when the man grabbed his waistband acting like he was trying to draw a gun, making the victims leave the area.

According to police, the victims came back to shop at a local business when the man appeared and fired two gunshots at their car. The suspect got into a Silver Dodge Challenger and flee the area. Neither victim was struck but the vehicle was.

GPD says the investigation by the responding officers located a vehicle matching the description in the Lincoln Estates neighborhood, and a search of the vehicle led to a loaded 9mm handgun.

Records check revealed the handgun was stolen on September 9th, 2018 during a Robbery and attempted carjacking that happened at Cabana Beach Apartments.

According to police, during the robbery, two black males came up to the victim while she was exiting her parked car in the complex and pointed handguns at her. They dragged her out of her car by her hair and struck her multiple times causing minor lacerations and bruising. Both suspects fled the scene and this investigation is on-going.

Detectives are following up on leads and awaiting evidence analysis to determine charges for possession of this stolen firearm and other crimes.
