The season of giving is nearing and many local food banks are experiencing shortages.

The St. Francis House in Gainesville is in need of food donations to be able to feed families for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

"It is a time where we rap up a lot of our operations, the need is great we have a full shelter now we've pretty much stayed full throughout the entire year and we're serving more and more people here at the shelter for just that lunch meal so we absolutely could use all the help we can get," said Rita Lawrence, acting director for St. Francis House.

As the shelter is preparing for cooler weather, coats, and blankets is also a necessity.
