Starke Police: One dead in overnight shooting

STARKE, Fla. (WCJB)- The Starke Police Department, with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, are investigating a shooting death that happened Wednesday morning on Old Lawtey Road, between Estelle Street and Cooper Road.

Police had been come out to the house for a call about a shooting a little after midnight on Wednesday, August 21. Major Barry Warren with the Starke Police tells TV20 that the victim, 46-year-old Franklin Williams, was found on the back porch of a house on the 200 block of Old Lawtey Road with a gunshot wound in his chest.

Williams was taken to Shands Starke Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around an hour later.

Major Warren says that later in the day, a search warrant related to the investigation into the murder was conducted at a house the next block over. A SWAT team with the Bradford County Sheriff's Office assisted in serving the warrant by entering the home before investigators and detaining 4 people inside for questioning.

The FDLE is assisting with the investigation, and no one has been arrested yet in relation to the murder of Franklin Williams.
