CHIEFLAND, Fla. (WCJB) - One of the industry leaders in army grade shooting targets is expanding their operations to Gainesville.
Theissen Training Systems (TTS) is an international company and currently has its U.S headquarters in Chiefland.
Tilman Rumpf, President of TTS, says, “Theissen Training Systems is an international leader in live-fire targetry for shooting ranges around the globe. We are producing targets here in the U.S to serve U.S military customers, the Marine Core, Navy, and The National Guard.“
The expansion to Gainesville will provide a lot of job opportunities with an increased focus on UF students.
Katie Bryan, director of Human Resources, says “we will be having job opportunities in the near future for mechanical, electrical and software engineering with a high focus on paid internship opportunities for students at the University of Florida. “
What sets Theissen apart is the fact that their targets are tested in a wide variety of climates, so basically anywhere that the army may have to go.
Rumpf says, “our products are designed to withstand harsh environments. Our targets are fielded in Alaska as well as in Kuwait, so temperature resistance is one of the benefits."
The new Theissen workshop and manufacturing site in Gainesville will be at the old Alley Cats Bowling Alley on NE Waldo road and is expected to be operational in March 2020.
