Two drivers killed in head-on collision on North East State Road 26

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB)- Two drivers died in a head-on collision Monday evening in Alachua County.

A 61-year-old man from Fleming Island in a black Chevy Malibu was driving west on Northeast State Road 26.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old woman from Starke in a red Volkswagon Passat was driving the opposite direction. She also had a female passenger who was also 22 years old.

Suddenly, one of the cars crossed over the road's centerline. The cars then collided head-on.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers closed State Road 26 for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Both drivers were sent to Shands Health where they were both pronounced deceased. The passenger in the second vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

FHP troopers are still investigating the crash.
