GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- Two people have been arrested after attempting to swap price tags for cheaper ones at a local Walmart.
41-year-old Robert Mitchell and 42-year-old Adriene Mitchell were shopping at the Walmart on Southwest 42nd street. According to the arrest report, they began replacing the barcodes of the things they had in their cart with cheaper tags, and even made it past the register.
When a witness confronted them, they abandoned their items and began to run before being caught. The total value of the stolen items before tax was less than 310 dollars.
After the arrest, four pipes and a small bag of marijuana were found in Adriene's purse. She later admitted the pipes were hers, and that they were used for smoking methamphetamines.
The pair were charged with grand theft, scheming to defraud and obtain property, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
