It's a landmark day for medicine in North Central Florida. UF Health opened the new Neuro-Medicine and Heart and Vascular Hospital on Thursday.

With a price tag of more than $420 million, the new facility is 500,000 square feet, and will have 216 private patient rooms.

Inside are 15 hybrid operating rooms that will eliminate the need to transport patients from one hospital to another during lifesaving surgeries.

Staff will serve primarily in Neuro and Cardiovascular Medicine, and will allow faculty to gain more expertise.

The new hospital created 600 construction jobs, 400 new hospital jobs, and another 400 employees will be hired over the next several months.

The hospital will be sterilized and open for patients on December 11th.
