UF Health recognizes National Healthcare Decisions Day

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day and UF Health hosted an event about advance care planning.

Patients had the opportunity to learn about organizations that offer advance directives.

An advance directive allows someone to indicate who can make decisions for them when they become seriously ill.

It also includes a will and the designation of a healthcare surrogate.

“In the event that something happens, we want to make sure that we're reaching out to the right person and that they knew exactly what your wishes were so that we can help you have the best end-of-life transition,” said Nyasia Jenkins, University of Florida’s Neuromedicine Interdisciplinary Clinical And Academic Program Quality Improvement Intern.

In recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Day, people had the chance to write on a “Before I Die" chalkboard to share one thing from their bucket list.
