The University of Florida hosted the 5th annual transportation center conference today.
Universities from around the Southeast traveled to Gainesville to present transportation research.
The conference included a live demonstration of automated and connected vehicles.
The demonstration showed how cars can communicate with traffic lights, drive itself, and sense if other cars are stopped.
"This is not something that others are doing, we're looking into the traffic management using those advanced technologies and this is something that's unique to Florida at this point," said Lily Elefteriadou, director of UF Transportation Institute.
Tesla also demonstrated the autonomous features they've applied to their cars.
