LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB)-- Friday is National Peanut Day and one organization used the day to educate people on one of North Central Florida's biggest crops.
The UF IFAS Extension in Live Oak invited people to the "North Central Florida Peanut Harvest Tour" Friday.
The tour stretched across farms and research facilities in four counties. Guests could see peanuts being grown and harvested, and learn about the importance of peanuts.
“Peanuts are a very important crop for our community in this region. Peanut production makes up a lot of acreage here and we have a lot of growers that depend on peanuts here and so there's a lot of families that really depend on peanut production to carry on their livelihood," North Florida Research and Education Center Farm Manager Ben Broughton said.
UF IFAS offers similar tours and events throughout the year. You can find more information about how you can attend by clicking the link attached to this article.
