UF vet school employee sues University for refusing to pay for gender reassignment surgery
It could be a groundbreaking legal battle that starts here in north-central Florida. A University of Florida vet school employee is suing the university because the state health care plan won't pay for gender reassignment surgery.
62-year-old Jami Claire of Trenton has worked for 32 years at UF. Claire and another transgender state employee filed suit in the U.S. district court on Monday to force the state to cover the surgery. The suit also asks for compensatory damages for their emotional distress.
