The federal government is supporting the groundbreaking work of another biotech startup in Alachua County.
The USDA has awarded a $500,000 grant to Pheronym, which works out of the Sid Martin Biotech Incubator.
Pheronym is developing a pesticide-free way of controlling certain types of nematodes, which are microscopic organisms that can destroy crops and gardens.
The money will be dedicated to expanding on the insect control technology to other types of nematodes.
