GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- There is a new federal prosecutor in North Florida, and he's a Gator.

Lawrence Keefe of Okaloosa County was sworn in as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida on Wednesday.

For many years, he practiced law privately in the Panhandle before being nominated for the job by President Donald Trump.

Keefe was confirmed by the Senate a week ago.

He attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship, where he earned both his Bachelor's Degree and his Juris Doctor.

The Northern District covers much of North Central Florida and stretches all the way to Pensacola.
