A graduate student at the University of Florida is headed to Antarctica.

On Sunday, Christina Davis, a Ph.D. candidate in Microbiology and Cell Science, will join a team funded by the National Science Foundation.

They'll explore Mercer Subglacial Lake in Antarctica for the first time.

The project they'll focus on aims to discover what lies beneath the Antarctic ice sheet.

Davis will stay there for two months.
