COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) — The Columbia County Sheriff's Office has released a sketch of the victim in a death investigation from 1978.

In a Facebook post, CCSO says that in November 1978, skeletal remains were found behind the rest area on Interstate 10 in Columbia County.

Investigators say that the remains were covered with pine needles and dirt and could not determine the identity or the cause of death. They believe he died within a year of the remains being found.

Forensic examiners determined that the remains were of a white male, approximately 5’9” tall, with an age of approximately 35-50 years old. Examiners determined that the man likely had arthritis and was right handed, had a former fracture in the pelvic area, a herniated disc, a fracture on his left nasal bone, a possible deformity on his left foot, and a small chin.

Investigators haven't determined a cause of death and say there was no evidence of foul play.

Anyone who may be able to identify the man is asked to contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at (386) 752-7015.
