GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- Family members and friends gathered Wednesday night to honor the life of a man killed at a north-central Florida restaurant over the weekend.

The shooting happened Sunday morning at the Waffle House on Newberry road in Gainesville. Investigators say 21-year-old Ezekiel Hicks shot and killed 41-year-old Craig Brewer.

At Lincoln Estates in southeast Gainesville, those who knew Brewer came to remember him with a balloon release.

Candles were also lit and Brewer's car had balloons attached to it.

A family friend, Lorenzo Hagins, had this to say, "the goal here today was to have a prayer vigil for Mr. Brewer showing the light that he meant to his family the community and the neighborhood to show you didn't just take some innocent person you took somebody that meant something. You took somebody who meant a lot and that's why you see cars up and down the street."

ASO is still looking for a motive into the shooting.
