Weyerhaeuser Company sues City Commission of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- Gainesville City Commissioners also are facing a new challenge. The Weyerhaeuser Company has filed a case in the Alachua County Court claiming commissioners.

The company is asking a court to tell commissioners they have to make a decision on a zoning application to create a mixed-use zone for housing, development, and conservation.

The company claims that for more than two years the city has failed to schedule a hearing on the application.

State law requires municipalities to take action in 180 days.

The zoning application is for just over 743 acres within its 1,779 acres located in the city.
