A Williston non-profit organization has received an award. Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc. received the 2018 Academy of United States Veterans' "Vetty" Award.
The Board of Governors for the award said the organization "has provided services and methods to replace feelings of despair with hope."
Guardian Angels is a nation-wide service dog organization. The organization rescues, raises, trains, and donates individually trained medical service dogs to veterans, first responders, and others who have PTSD, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, and mobility problems.
The organization began in 2010 and has paired more than 220 service dogs with those in need. There is no state or federal funding for the program.
