GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- An Alachua woman ended up behind bars after traveling up to 115 mph in an attempt to get her car to her boyfriend.

Brooke Howard said she drove away from them so she could get her car to her boyfriend. The situation unfolded after officers pulled the 20-year-old over for driving with no lights on.

In her journey, Howard traveled through local streets then merged onto US Highway 441. Then, she merged onto I-75 heading northbound where she reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. In a conversation Howard initiated with dispatchers, she explained her circumstances so she could be arrested after her car had been turned over to her boyfriend.

Alachua County Sheriff's Office arrested Howard on an active warrant. She's held in the Alachua County jail on $17,000 bond.
