Austin, TX University of Florida senior Yanis David claimed her second national title of the school year late Thursday night, winning the women's long jump crown at the NCAA outdoor championships in Austin, Texas. Her winning leap of 22 feet, 5 and a quarter inches is a personal best.
David was outstanding from the start of the competition, setting a career long on her second jump of the night at 21 feet, 11 and three quarter inches. After her mark was surpassed, David regained the lead on her fifth jump ( each athlete has six chances). The winning effort stands as the 10th longest in collegiate history.
David collects an outdoor NCAA title to go along with the indoor crown she won in the triple jump earlier this school year. Thursday night's performance is the program's first national crown in the long jump.
