Gainesville, Fla (WCJB) Kerry Blackshear, perhaps the top player available in college basketball's transfer portal, announced on Wednesday night that he would finish his college career at the University of Florida. Blackshear comes to Gainesville from Virginia Tech. He is a graduate transfer originally from Orlando and is eligible to play next season.
In his final season with the Hokies, Blackshear averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. At 6-foot-10, 250 pounds, he gives the Gators the post scoring they struggled to find last season. He chose Florida over fellow SEC schools Tennessee and Kentucky.
Blackshear's commitment adds to what was already a solid list of incoming recruits for the 2019-20 season. Signees Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann are McDonald's All-Americans, and Florida also brings back Andrew Nembhard, Noah Locke and Keyontae Johnson.
