Youth Baseball Players Compete in State Championship

LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB)- What better way to celebrate America's birthday, than playing america's favorite past time, baseball.

Several youth baseball teams from around the state came to Lake City to participate in the Babe Ruth Baseball State tournaments.

Six teams of 9 year old players and eight teams of 11 year old players, have been competing in the tourney.

The tournament started on Thursday and will last until Sunday.

These players will compete for a state title and will hope to advance to the world series in Jensen beach, with an automatic bid.

The Gainesville all stars under 11 team, won both of their games today, and they will compete for the title on Sunday.

They're hoping to be the first Gainesville team to repeat as state champions.
