Stair Climb Challenge pays tribute to 9/11 first responders

Hundreds climbed the 1,980 steps in the Swamp to honor the first responders who sacrificed their lives during the September 11th attacks. The event was hosted by the UF Collegiate Veterans Society, Student Government and the Grit Foundation.

Pedestrian killed in Putnam County

Eric Edenfield, 32, was walking south on US Highway 17 near CR 216 around 6 Thursday morning. A dump truck driven by Treviss Smith, also heading south, hit Edenfield from behind.

Identities of the people involved in a deadly crash on Wednesday released

State troopers say Willard Crowder, 79, was driving north on I-75, south of Alachua when he lost control of his pickup. The vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree before bursting into flames. Crowder was able to get out but his passenger, Lee Bishop, 85, was killed.

A car fire Thursday morning backed up traffic in Newberry
