LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) - Columbia County is turning 191 years old on Feb. 4.

On this day in 1832, the county was officially created out of land previously owned by Alachua County.

One of the County’s first settlements was named “Alligator”.

It was originally created as a Seminole village, inhabited by Native Americans until the second Seminole War in 1835.
