City commissioners approve total cost of Gainesville streatery project
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Construction on the streatery project in downtown Gainesville will begin in April after city commissioners approved the total cost at their meeting on Thursday.
Commissioners decided on a maximum cost of $4.5 million .
Although this was a unanimously approved decision, commissioners Ed Book, Desmon Duncan-Walker, and James Ingle were not present.
City representatives explain that the reason for such a price is that this is going to be a full reconstruction of the corridor.
Plans call for replacing all the bricks in the streatery area, along with installing a new drainage system and lighting.
Estimated start date for construction is April 13 and should be completed by late football season.
The city is also encouraging the community to keep visiting the streatery to support local businesses.
The downtown market series is returning starting on Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There will be up to 26 vendors selling clothing, arts, plants, and much more.
The downtown market series is going to be up for the community to enjoy every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, starting Friday and going until May 3.
