High Springs hosts free tire and bulk waste drop-off event

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) - Residents in High Springs used a free drive-through event to dispose of unwanted tires and large bulk waste.

The tire and bulk disposal event gives residents a place to drop off excess tires or waste materials for free.

Organizers said proper disposal does more than clean up yards. They said it stops illegal dumping, keeps mosquitoes from breeding in standing water and keeps pollutants out of the soil.

Carlos Gonzalez, executive director of Keep Alachua County Beautiful, said the event supports the county and the environment residents rely on.

“This is helping clean up our county and our part of Florida that we call home, and making sure that we’re taking care of the environment that we rely on and that also wildlife and plants call home,” Gonzalez said. “And so today, removing these items that normally might be illegally dumped is what’s most significant.”

Organizers said they hope to make the event an annual tradition in High Springs.
