A former handyman for the Swamp restaurant was arrested for breaking into the restaurant and stealing money and liquor.

Gainesville Police say the manager of the restaurant walked in and noticed the door had been forcefully opened. After searching around he noticed $5,000 in cash was missing as well as bottles of liquor.

Security videos showed 26-year old Justin Rees turning off an outside camera and then going inside the restaurant.

Rees used to work for Swamp as a handyman for more than a year. Post miranda Rees claimed that he had no memory of breaking in because he was drunk during the crime. He just remembers waking up next to the stolen items.

He gave back the money to the police and was arrested and taken to the Alachua County jail.
