Williston Fire Chief says rumors of demotion or firing are not true

WILLISTON, Fla. (WCJB) - Williston Fire Chief Lemar Stegal said rumors that he has been demoted or fired are not true.

Stegal said he is still on the job.

Stegal and Mayor Charles Goodman each spoke Wednesday about the matter.

Goodman considered placing the fire department’s operations under the police department.

The city attorney said the move is not allowed under the city charter.
